What is a PUM score

Percentage Uniform Mark, PUM is the score shown on the result for Cambridge Assessement International Education(CAIE) Alevel student. To ensure that the lettered grade is effective for students taking different series of exams. CAIE has setup calcualtions to convert the raw score to the PUM based on the 100 full mark. For instance, If a student happens to be the last one to achieve A*, but he/she may achieve different raw marks in different sittings. e.g. 212 in 2024 june, while 200 in 2025 march. To ensure the continuity, the student would ALWAYS receive a PUM of 90 regardless of the discrpency in raw scores caused by the level of difficulty. Thus, the results from different series could be comparable. This scheme is called PUM score.

How to calculate PUM using this calculator

If you are using this calculator for the first time then you might need to understand how this calculator works for calculating the percentage uniform mark, PUM, and lettered grade for a single paper, A2 Combined score, or any curve you want.

First, you need to type in the raw score and the total score. For example, the total score for A-Level Physics(9702) is 260 for five components from papar 1 to paper 5.

Then, you must find or determine the minimum raw score that could be given the lettered grade, A*/A/B/C/D/E respecitvely. The placeholder in each row comes from the grading threshold from the June 2024 examination. You can change it by typing your desired one.

And the last step is to click on the calculate button, then the PUM and lettered grade would be exhibited.
